Risk & Interface Management

Large infrastructure projects are inherently complex, introducing significant risks to project outcomes. This complexity arises from the diverse participants involved, including people, organizations, and physical infrastructure. Within these groups, additional layers of complexity emerge, such as behavioral dynamics, stakeholder expectations, cognitive biases, and organizational systems.
To navigate these challenges, project leaders must establish a structured project organization, train teams effectively, and implement robust reporting mechanisms for clients and stakeholders. Additionally, they must proactively manage the diverse range of stakeholders that the project interacts with.
A key discipline in mitigating these complexities is Interface Management (IM). IM ensures that project participants effectively address interface issues, which commonly include dependencies on scheduled works, design coordination, work-face land occupancy, work sequencing, and interactions between temporary overlays and business-as-usual operations.
Despite their critical importance, these considerations are often misunderstood at the contract engagement stage, frequently resulting in project delays and cost overruns.
At Nexus Project Solutions (Nexus), we bring extensive expertise in managing large-scale infrastructure projects. Our Directors have contributed to some of Australia’s most significant infrastructure developments, with over 50 years of combined experience.
To help project teams successfully integrate Interface Risk Management (IRM), Nexus Project Solutions has developed the 7 STEPS TO IRM —a structured approach designed to mitigate risks , enhance coordination, and drive project success.
